Three pinned topics to jump start your day.
Imposter syndrome.
This is a term most of you have probably heard and even more likely, one you’ve dealt with in your own lives. For those of you who don’t know the term or even fully understand it, imposter syndrome is feeling like a “fraud” or doubting your abilities despite being high performing or successful in external, objective ways.
Personally, I’ve been dealing with this since releasing my book, Angel Man, and now, each month I put out this newsletter, I battle it.
“Maybe people are just being nice and telling you they liked your book.”
“Maybe people say they enjoy your newsletter but really they don’t even read it?”
“Are you really an author just because you wrote and published a book?”
It seems silly even writing this and sharing it with you all but it’s the truth and it’s not easy putting myself out there with these questions swirling in my mind each time I do.
And then, I’m reminded that the book is real, I wrote it, people are buying it, people are buying angels, the message is important, and so is the work I’m doing.
Two of my cousins, Jessica and Heather, have purchased multiple books from me the last few months. Jessica has been sending them to friends who have lost loved ones. Heather bought twenty of them recently and gave two copies of each to some very close friends of hers; one copy for them and one for them to give to someone else.
One of the recipients of a book from Jessica recently messaged me:
A few days later, Heather forwarded me a message from one of her friends she gave books and angels to:
I forwarded these on to my wife Maddie with tears of happiness in my eyes. She shared in my joy and told me she wasn’t as surprised as I have continued to be, that people not only enjoy the book, but believe in the message too.
I want to thank all of you who have supported me so far and especially to those of you who have taken the time to reach out, who have bought or shared the book, or who have written a review for the book on Amazon. These things have all helped me stay focused on my mission and have kept my imposter syndrome from derailing me.
This month’s SHOUT goes out to former Kansas Basketball superstar Jalen Wilson and his mom Lisa.
What this world, and especially our youth, need now more than ever, are role models. I believe very few in Hollywood or sports and entertainment get this right but Jalen and his mother recently did something that left me saying, “Finally, someone using their platform to show others what it means to take care of those around you.” It’s the message of my book and one I want my boys to feel deep in their hearts as they grow up.
When Lisa saw an interview on KSHB 41 News of Samuel Arellano, a 10-year-old boy who was struck by gunfire at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl celebration, he was wearing a t-shirt with the image of her son Jalen Wilson on it. Lisa contacted the Arellano family and invited them to Allen Fieldhouse to watch the Jayhawks take on the Texas Longhorns.
Lisa raised a great son because during his busy NBA season, Jalen took the time to record a video for Samuel that was played on the jumbotron at halftime of that game. Samuel received a standing ovation and had tears in his eyes.
I was so proud of my Jayhawk family for being extraordinary in the life of a young kid who had just experienced something that will be difficult for him to carry the rest of this life.

Circling back around to the feedback I’ve been getting about my book, I’ve seen how impactful the book and the angels have been in the lives of those who have recently lost someone they love.
Knowing the book is bringing comfort to those who are grieving is giving me even more of a reason to continue to spread my message. We’ve all lost someone at some point and while we all experience and deal with grief in different ways, one thing we all remember and appreciate are those who reach out to us during a difficult time.
A great way you can SHINE is by sending a book and some angels to someone going through a difficult time or to someone who has experienced a loss and might need a reminder they are loved and someone is thinking about them.
If you’d like me to inscribe a message from you inside the book, I’m happy to do so if you leave a note with your order.
Thank you again for all the support. It means the world to me and to Buzz.
