Three pinned topics to jump start your day.
This month’s SHARE is a particularly fun story because for the first time ever, it’s about someone giving ME an angel…who wasn’t my grandfather.
A few weeks ago I had arrived home from work. It was one of those days that dragged on. It felt like two days. I couldn’t get in a groove. My phone never stopped ringing. Every email felt like a problem. Luckily these days are rare for me at the office, but they do happen and I remember walking in the door a bit dejected.
What I didn’t know was that God had a little wink in store for me.
What’s really fun about this wink is that it came in the mail. It’s worth noting that Maddie and I are both horrible about checking our mail. That’s not an exaggeration. On multiple occasions we’ve had a knock at our door from the mailman/woman with a pile so big we aren’t sure how it all fit in the box. We’ve even had notes left for us inside the box asking us to please get the mail.
Truth be told, we are still mostly horrible at it, but we have made some improvements.
I point this out because for a guy who doesn’t have a lot of bad days at work, to come home to a pile of mail his wife just happened to get that day, on a day that didn’t go his way, would be about as likely as winning the lottery. Maybe I should have bought a ticket.
There was a handwritten envelope addressed to me on top and I opened it up to find this:
I was instantly emotional. I felt like I had just received a hug from a stranger. I suddenly got a glimpse of what it must feel like to be on the receiving end of an angel pin from me or my grandfather.
Right then and there, everything came full circle. I knew more than ever in that moment that I was on the right path with my book and spreading the message of the angels. And now I’m more determined than ever, to get my book and our angels in the hands of as many people as I can.
Who knows, maybe my goal for my book will be the same as my grandfather’s goal for the angels…to get one million or more into this world.
This month’s SHOUT goes out to Bobbi Brown, my neighbor Mandy’s stepmom, who sent me the angel pin and card above.
I haven’t ever heard of someone else who passes out angels besides either my family or others who have been given angels by us and asked for more so they can give them out too.
I asked Mandy for Bobbi’s number so I could get in touch with her and learn more about when and how she decided to start handing out the angels.
Bobbi shared with me that she has always had a strong belief in angels and traces it back to when her mother passed away before she was two years old. At different points in her life, she’s felt an intervention that kept her safe and kept things from going the wrong way for her. Bobbi believes her mother has always been her guardian angel.
Bobbi has always believed in the power of prayer and told me she has passed out five thousand or so to friends, strangers, and even coworkers.
One really interesting thing I found out is that Bobbi takes a different delivery approach than me and my grandfather. She likes to sneak them to people or leave them on a desk or somewhere a person will find the angel but not know where it came from. For a guy who loves surprising people, I’m adding this delivery method to my repertoire.
The other thing I loved about Bobbi’s approach is the card she attaches the angel to for many of the pins she passes out. She developed her own creed and I think it beautifully captures what life is really all about. My favorite line in her creed is,
“Enjoy your life journey - make a difference!”
If you ask those who know me best, they’ll tell you I excel at enjoying my life journey. More important than that though, I want to make a difference. I’ve been blessed with so much and feel it’s my duty, and really all of our duties, to spread the love.
If you’re looking to get involved in the community or want to find a way to give of your time, talents, or treasures, one of my good friend’s Tito is starting a non-profit this year called Well By Well.
Tito, a Ugandan, and US Citizen, spent Christmas with his mom in his village for the first time in 19 years just a couple years ago. While he was there, he realized his villagers had to walk many miles to the nearest clean water well. He came back and told me he wanted to build them a well close to their village. And in 2022, he did.
Last year he told me he wanted to build another well for another nearby village. Just a few weeks ago, Tito returned from his second trip to Uganda, where he and his team completed their second well.
This year we will be looking for help in building Well By Well and we’d love you to get involved if you have any skills or expertise in web design, graphic design, bookkeeping, engineering, or in general, if you just want to help.
More to come on that.
